Druzy Jasper with Agate Banding

This unusual specimen comes from Artigas, Uruguay, a region best known for its world-class amethyst. Occasionally, however, the same deposits produce material with dramatically different coloration, making pieces like this a much less commonly encountered alternative to the region’s familiar purple amethyst.

The face is covered in a dense layer of fine, sparkling reddish-brown druzy crystals, creating a warm, almost coppery appearance that comes alive under direct light. One of the most interesting features is the small exposed agate area within the druzy, which provides a beautiful contrast against the surrounding crystal surface.

From the side, the specimen takes on an entirely different character. The polished edge reveals distinct layers of dark agate with crisp white and gray banding, creating a striking transition from the sparkling druzy face to the deep, glossy interior.

It’s this combination of unusual color, fine druzy texture, and contrasting agate banding that makes the piece so appealing. While Artigas is famous for amethyst, specimens displaying these warm earth tones are less commonly encountered and offer something distinctly different from the locality.

A unique Artigas specimen that works beautifully as either a mineral collectible or a small natural décor piece.
